The tap runs, the brass rattles, the first stein goes up, and somewhere someone shouts Horrido — far too loud, far too convinced and in exactly the tone that makes the landlord glance up to check everything is still standing.

Humpen-Horrido is no clean marksmen’s greeting. It is the moment tradition loses its safety catch: gamsbart, rifle, stein, tent light and an old hunting song better left unquestioned while sober.

A motif for that corner of Okkultoberfest where the stein is not raised to be polite, but because the table needs an order. Foam on the rim, eyes front, and for one short moment even the worst idea looks like tradition.

FASSNACHT

Here the wood turns dark.

A heavy brown between beer cellar, old barrel, spilled dark beer and the kind of night that does not begin suddenly, but slowly rises up out of the table.

Fassnacht is the late part of Okkultoberfest. When the band sounds rougher, the floor sticks, the stein grows heavier and the landlord has known more than everyone else at the table for a long time now.
